I have seen coaches saying other strokes could have transfering effect to freestyle, because of improved body awareness. I haven't ever learned how to swim from an instructor and I don't do it much, so I'm a little nervous for that portion. I find this to be a significant problem in the water. Basically - I seem to sink more than other people! The first time I wore a full wetsuit it was amazing, I could actually swim in open water without wasting so much energy trying to stay on the surface.

Is there any solution to my problem? In the pool during training, overweight people who would never be able to hang with me on a run or bike, are keeping pace with me or even passing me. I witnessed overweight persons floating in the water, while I need to use decent arm and leg movement while treading water. My situation is frustrating. The one Sprint Tri that I did without a wetsuit in Lake Michigan, I ended up swimming under the water for portions holding my breath. It was better than fighting to stay on the surface and going nowhere. I am wonder how other people cope with low body fat and sinking in the water? I am trying to build up more muscle, with the idea that maybe it will provide additional buoyancy?Indiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00393711824171611386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1267027168625196862.post-74408108939596541752014-03-30T00:53:41.677+00:002014-03-30T00:53:41.677+00:00I have cut a couple of minutes off my 1500m time a...I have cut a couple of minutes off my 1500m time after doing some vertical kicking in the deep end at the end of every workout. Is it too soon to add paddles or a band into the routine? I am currently working on smaller sets in order to build volume because I can tell by my last 75 of a 8x75 main set, my form has gone out the window.

Also for curiosity purposes, I tried just keeping my ankles next to each other, like a band situation, and realized that I had to really increase my stroke count and swim like I was drowning in order to keep afloat. I followed your link to Coach Paulo's 2007 post, and I wanted to ask your opinion on pullups for swimming. My feeling is that they have always helped my swimming, but maybe this is due to the strengthening effect on the lats rather than reinforcing a proper elbow position for swimming. Just curious to hear your thoughts, whether they could be worthwhile or not. I do know I will be doing some band work tomorrow morning - thanks!Jeremyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12447049754872053339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1267027168625196862.post-44656455834665813652012-01-12T14:41:02.936+00:002012-01-12T14:41:02.936+00:00What would you consider "traditional drills&q...What would you consider "traditional drills" to be?Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663169345354261617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1267027168625196862.post-66381852917988778642012-01-09T20:54:39.313+00:002012-01-09T20:54:39.313+00:00@Paul Jewkes Wrong on all 21!
