Joel, The only other time I have posted here was to 'Vote for the Dork' and Simon made the cut then as well! After my run this AM I was cooking eggs and thinking of posting an open letter to all the haters out there on my own blog after reading the responses and comments from so-called fans of Canadian triathlon. Thanks for saving me the trouble. For the record, I support your decisions and the athletes and look forward to being glued to my TV this Summer watching them bring BAMF to Beijing.
Thank you for your post. I too have been bothered by all the really negative comments. I have enjoyed following your team's results over the last year after finding Simon's blog. I'm still cheering for him(and all the other Canadians and BAMFers), 8 years after the 2000 Olympics. Keep up the good work and go get 'em in Beijing.
Joel currently serves as Head Coach for British Triathlon, based at the National High Performance Centre in Loughborough. Joel has been involved in triathlon both as an athlete, representing Canada as part of national junior triathlon teams, and as a coach, initiating his own Coaching Company in 2000. Previously Joel served Triathlon Canada for two years as Development Coach at the National Triathlon Centre in Victoria, before taking on the Senior Coach role in 2006. Joel has coached at two Commonwealth Games (2002 and 2006), two Pan American Games (2003 and 2007), and was the Head Coach for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
"The most important thing is winning. If you're not in the fight, there's no excitement. It's not about the participation. It's about the scariness of lining up when you have a chance." Jake Wetzel by way of Ken Read
